Shop Hop!


 I got to Raleigh long before check-in time so I stowed my cart and headed toward the sound of laughter.  In the bar area I found some of my classmates.  We did the 1000 questions routine, but then decided to head out to the local quilt shops.

First we headed to Cary Quilting Company.   http://caryquilting.com



There, I signed up for the shop hop.  They gave me the tent pattern, I won the "stitch local" kit, and bought the orange flowers.

Then my carload of me and 2 others went to Wish Upon a Quilt.  http://wishuponaquilt.com

I bought the strawberry fabric and won the fat quarter.

Then I dropped my passengers back at the hotel and got my roommate from the airport.  We got back to the hotel and checked-in.  Then we got a couple more folks and headed to the Bernina World of Sewing.  http://berninaworldofsewing.com



They gave me a block kit, I bought the gear panel and the flowers, and won 20% off a kit, which I used on the "La Tuilerie"

We ate at "The Big Easy", which was yummy, especially the bourbon brownie which was so so rich, we couldn't finish it.

Back at the hotel, the room was open for us to set up, so we did . . .

Class starts 8am tomorrow morning!

An Adventure in Western Ohio

 On the morning of Friday, December 8, I drove up to pick up Rebecca.  Waving goodbye to Todd in the driveway, we set off toward Ohio. The day before I had done some research online to pick out the shops to stop at.  After checking for photos to verify that they were physical shops, I came up with a list of ten. #1 was Freedom Bound Quilt Shop, in Wauseon, which was having a 50% of everything except sewing machines.  If you are near NW Ohio, they are doing this all of December, so go! #2, The Quilterie, in Celina, is on Main St.  At their recommendation we had lunch across the street at the Anchor and yes, the mushroom swiss burger was very good. #3 on the list was Little House of Stitches, but when Rebecca called to ask a question, she found out they are online only.  So on to the next. #4 was Cotton Junky.  We headed to Tipp City but didn't arrive in time for the posted 4pm closing.  We did find Tippecanoe and Weavers Too where Rebecca got some nice roving for her beret project.

  I showed my Love Links top at the Cal-Co Quilters Guild meeting on Jan 29.  The pattern is by Running with Scissors for Studio 180 Design.  It has 160 flying geese units, which I trimmed using the Wing Clipper tool by Studio 180 Design.

Family Quilts

  At the Monday guild meeting of Cal-Co Quilt Guild I gave the presentation for Member Spotlight.  I had 27 family quilts to show.  Thanks to my helpers who took pictures, handled the quilts and helped pack my car at the end. This was given to me by Mama Lindley (Bertha) in 1979. The quilts following are made by my Mom (Joan) and my MIL (Sue) My mom provided 14 of the 9-blocks.  My Aunt Phyllis provided the sashing fabrics. My Mom's last top, Marilyn Garrison did the quilting and I did the binding. My Mom had 13 of the blocks done.  I did the rest. Below are two of her bags.
