Hurrah for Quilt Retreats!

Image
At my last retreat, I got to teach a couple students about the Tucker Trimmer as they made these blocks . . .  and then Judi wanted to try the block using the Corner Pop 2 and she did it! Then I did some binding . . . This is Pineapple Party by Swirly Girls, Tuckerized using the Tucker Trimmer and the Wing Clipper. This is Love Links, a Studio 180 Design pattern, using the Wing Clipper.

Mary Anne's progress on the Symphony pattern

Image
Mary Anne got the Symphony pattern and the fabrics from Purple Bobbin quilt shop in Jackson, MI. These are the first two large blocks she made using the Tucker Trimmer for the QSTs in the corners, the Wing Clipper for the Flying Geese in the chevrons, and the Four Patch Square Up for the center. She then did some of the surrounding blocks.  She used the Wing Clipper, the Square Squared and the Non-Mirror Combination Unit Technique Sheet for the Tucker Trimmer.  She also used the Four Patch Square Up for the four patches. Next, she did more Non-Mirror Combination Units and some HSTs with her Tucker Trimmer. Then some Lemoyne Stars using the Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star tool. She did the other Lemoyne Stars at home, then some Square in a Square using the Square Squared at lesson. Lots more to come yet!

Mary Anne's first blocks for her bag.

This is Mary Anne's first block as a weekly student.  She used the Tucker Trimmer for the HSTs in the corners and the Wing Clipper for the Flying Geese making up the chevrons. Her second block, in the green and blue, used the Four Patch Square Up for the corners, the Corner Pop 1 for the house units, and the Square Squared for the center. Her third block she did twice since the Technique Sheet for Non-Mirror Combination Units makes 4 with the Tucker Trimmer.  She made 4 one way and 4 the other.  Then she turned them in different directions. Her final block for the bag was a Lemoyne Star.  She used the Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star tool. Here is the finished bag.

An Adventure in Western Ohio

Image
On the morning of Friday, December 8, I drove up to pick up Rebecca.  Waving goodbye to Todd in the driveway, we set off toward Ohio. The day before I had done some research online to pick out the shops to stop at.  After checking for photos to verify that they were physical shops, I came up with a list of ten. #1 was Freedom Bound Quilt Shop, in Wauseon, which was having a 50% of everything except sewing machines.  If you are near NW Ohio, they are doing this all of December, so go! #2, The Quilterie, in Celina, is on Main St.  At their recommendation we had lunch across the street at the Anchor and yes, the mushroom swiss burger was very good. #3 on the list was Little House of Stitches, but when Rebecca called to ask a question, she found out they are online only.  So on to the next. #4 was Cotton Junky.  We headed to Tipp City but didn't arrive in time for the posted 4pm closing.  We did find Tippecanoe and Weavers Too where Rebecca got some ...
